Prof. Graeme D. Smith is currently a Professor of Nursing in the School of Health Sciences, Saint Francis University, Hong Kong. He has been a Fellow of the European Academy of Nursing Science since 2003. He graduated from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh with a BA in Nursing Studies in 1989. His Doctoral studies at University of Edinburgh arose from an interest in psychological healthcare, where he is a Honorary Professor. He is also an Adjunct Professor at La Trobe University, Australia. Other research interests include health literacy, chronic illness, loneliness in older people, stress/resilience in nursing and academic resilience. He was an editor of the Journal of Clinical Nursing (2012-2022), prior to joining Journal of Advanced Nursing 2022. Professor Smith has published textbooks on nurse education and gastrointestinal nursing.
Prof. Graeme D. Smith research expertise lies mainly in relation to health literacy in chronic illness, alongside psychological health, resilience and loneliness in older adults. He is also highly experienced in nursing research methodology, systematic, scoping and integrative reviews, and strengthening research integrity within health sciences. As editor of Journal of Advanced Nursing (Q1), he provides expert guidance on peer review, academic writing and publication. He is an experienced postgraduate teacher and has supervised 18 PhD students to successful completion as Principal Supervisor.
