Research / Project Positions

The appointee will be responsible to: (a) assist in recruiting and screening participants to study criteria; (b) conduct surveys and act as a note-taker during the interview as outlined in the study protocol; (c) ensure accurate and timely documentation of all data collected; (d) organize and maintain databases and data entry systems; (e) perform data cleaning and preliminary analysis under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI); (f) assist in the preparation of reports and presentations based on research findings; (g) conduct literature searches and summarize relevant studies to support the research objectives; (h) stay updated on current trends and developments in the field; (i) schedule meetings, coordinate study-related activities, and manage communication with participants, and (j) assist in the preparation of conference presentations and publications.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: (i) possess a recognized bachelor's degree in statistics, health sciences, or a related field; (ii) have relevant post-qualification research experience; (iii) demonstrate a strong command of both written and spoken Chinese and English; and (iv) exhibit proficiency in SPSS, along with experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.

The appointee will support a project that aims to explore nurses' perspectives on promoting advance directives and assess their capacity to manage end-of-life care and related issues. Responsibilities include (a) coordinating activities, (b) collecting and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data, (c) reviewing the relevant literature, (d) providing administrative support, (e) assisting the research team in preparing research reports, and (f) performing any other duties assigned by the project leader.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: (i) possess a recognized bachelor's degree in statistics, health sciences, or a related field; (ii) have at least three years of relevant post-qualification experience; (iii) demonstrate a strong command of both written and spoken Chinese and English; and (iv) exhibit proficiency in SPSS, along with experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.

The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigators. His/her task will include (i) helping to prepare questionnaire for survey; (ii) arranging and assisting to conduct personal interviews & focus groups; (iii) conducting quantitative data analysis with SPSS, (iv) conducting analysis of the verbatim transcriptions; (v) assisting in drafting training materials, powerpoint presentations, operational manuals, forms, templates and reports; (vi) drafting research manuscripts and other presentation materials for presentation/publication in conferences/journals; (vii) assisting in event preparation and implementations; (viii) performing other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree, preferably with a Master's/MPhil degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline; (ii) solid training and experience in research methods, both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis; (iii) excellent English and Chinese proficiency.

An appointment will initially be made on a contract basis, it will be renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.

The appointee will support the Principal Investigator in a research project on Facebook news framing. Key responsibilities include:

• preparing research materials for quantitative studies;
• collecting, inputting, and analysing quantitative data;
• reviewing literature and drafting manuscripts;
• undertaking other duties as assigned by the project leader or her delegates.

1. hold an honours degree in social sciences, or a related discipline, preferably in Psychology;
2. have at least one year of relevant work experience;
3. possess strong knowledge and skills in quantitative research methodologies and data analysis;
4. demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including research-related software, such as SPSS, and online quantitative data collection platform, such as Qualtrics, and an experience in data crawling techniques being an advantage;
5. have an excellent command of both written and spoken English, as well as fluency in written Traditional Chinese and spoken Cantonese;
6. be self-motivated, exhibit strong organisational skills, and have a strong sense of responsibility; and
7. be a good team player who is also capable of working independently.

The Research Assistant will play a key role in supporting a research project focused on Hong Kong Audio Description Services in films. Working closely with the Principal Investigator and the research team, the appointee will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including data collection, data analysis, negotiating with organizations to arrange interviews, and actively participating in interviews. The Research Assistant may also be required to assist with other related tasks as needed. Strong communication skills and proficiency in Cantonese are essential for this role.

The appointee is mainly required to assist in a 5-year innovative service-research project entitled 'Meta-S: An Integrative Psychosocial Study and Service Outcome Evaluation for Students with Special Educational Needs'. The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator the Co-investigators and the team in conducting the research tasks, including: (a) reviewing literature; (b) arranging and conducting in-depth interviews; (c) analyzing quantitative data; (d) compiling research reports; (e) handling relevant administrative tasks, and (f) performing other duties as assigned.

For Research Assistant:
Applicants should (i) have a recognised Bachelor's degree or above in Education / Applied Research / Applied Psychology / Statistics / Social Work; (ii) have relevant research experience and knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research, (iii) be able to work independently, have an investigative nature, attention to detail, and an analytical aptitude; (iv) familiar with procedures of conducting in-depth interviews and with analyzing quantitative data; and (v) have good communication skills and fluency in English and Chinese.

For Senior Research Assistant:
Applicants should (i) have a recognised Master's degree or above in Education / Applied Research / Applied Psychology / Statistics / Social Work; (ii) have more than three years research experience and knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research, (iii) be able to work independently, have an investigative nature, attention to detail, and an analytical aptitude; (iv) familiar with procedures of conducting in-depth interviews and with analyzing quantitative data; (v) have good communication skills and fluency in English and Chinese; and (vi) have relevant knowledge and passion in research about Special Education Needs at the University context will be a preference.

The appointee will be responsible to assist administrative and coordinating work for the research project. Tasks include: (a) promoting and arranging the research study; (b) collecting data and conducting data analysis; (c) preparing meetings and reports; (d) organizing seminars and workshops; (d) performing other duties as assigned.

Applicants should (i) have a recognised Bachelor's degree; (ii) have relevant research experience in the handling of data entry, transcription and analysis; (iii) be able to work independently, attention to detail with positive working attitude; and (iv) have good communication skills and fluency in English and Chinese.

The appointee will support the Principal Investigator and the team members in a research project on 'Situation Analysis of Period Poverty in Hong Kong'. Duties include (a) conducting the literature review and draft reports; (b) collecting, inputting, and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data; (c) administrative and logistics work related to the project; and (d) performing other duties as assigned by the research team.

Applicants should (a) have a recognized bachelor degree or above in social sciences or relevant disciplines; (b) have good knowledge and research skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and data analysis; (c) have good computer knowledge; SPSS are necessary; (d) have good command of both written and spoken English as well as fluency in written Traditional Chinese and spoken Cantonese; (e) have good interpersonal and communication skill; and (f) be able to work independently.

The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator and the research team to support the research project. Duties include literature review, data collection and analysis, project management, report and manuscript writing and other related responsibilities as required. The appointee should be able to work independently and communicate in English and Chinese.

The appointee will be responsible to assist with the administrative and coordination of the research project. Tasks include: (a) making arrangement to ensure a smooth research study; (b) collecting data and conducting data analysis; (c) preparing reports; and (d) performing other assigned duties.

Applicants should have (i) a bachelor's degree in nursing, health science, gerontology, mental health or psychology; (ii) 3-4 years of research experience and knowledge of qualitative research; and (iii) some working experiences in gerontology and long-term care settings.

Apart from conducting researches, securing external research grants, and undertaking research and scholarly tasks as the main duties, the appointee shall also be responsible for teaching in related areas, and other assigned duties.  

Applicants should have (a) an earned and recognized Doctorate degree in either nursing, health sciences, mental health, psychology or relevant disciplines; (b) previous experiences in handling qualitative research or in gerontology and long-term care, and healthcare issues, and (c) relevant teaching / professional / research experiences. Preference will be given to those with doctoral degree having teaching experience in degree programmes / proven research record. Less experience will be considered as Research Associate / Research Assistant.

The appointee, as the "Centre Manager", will assist the Centre Director to oversee the daily operations of the Caregiver Research & Development Centre (CRC). Tasks will include:

• identify resources and assist to prepare and write up research or service project proposals,
• conduct research studies (quantitative and qualitative), and service projects on caregiving,
• conduct data analysis of the quantitative data and qualitative verbatim transcription independently,
• organize workshops, seminars, international conferences and other academic-related events,
• draft research manuscripts and powerpoints for publication / presentation in journals / conferences, as well as prepare teaching materials, manuals, forms, template and reports,
• communicate/liaise with collaborating organizations and experts,
• lead and supervise RAs and student helpers to carry out various tasks,
• assist the Centre Director to carry out financial management of and resource acquisition for the CRC,
• performing other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have

• A Master degree, preferably a PhD degree, in Social Sciences or a related field,
• At least 5 years of relevant research experiences,
• Proficiency and experiences in quantitative and qualitative data analysis,
• Excellent proficiency in oral and written English and Chinese,
• an ability to work independently & competently,
• Experiences in supervising or working with other research staff.

The appointee will assist in research activities for one of the following funded FDS research projects:

Developing Efficient Cartoon Animation Editing Pipeline via Deep Entity Recognition and Motion Analysis [UGC/FDS11/E02/23]

A Transformer-based Method for Refining and Abstracting Sketches at Different Levels of Details [UGC/FDS11/E02/24]
 

Typical tasks will include, but are not limited to:

1. Preparing and annotating training datasets;
2. Implementing and optimizing proposed deep learning algorithms;
3. Conducting ablation analysis and comparative experiments;
4. Organizing and performing user studies and evaluations; and
5. Documenting results and preparing technical reports and manuscripts.

1. Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines;
2. Research experience in deep learning, computer vision, or image processing, with proven ability to work independently;
3. Competency in developing deep learning models using standard libraries and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow;
4. Good communication, interpersonal skills, and teamwork spirit; and
5. Publication experience in peer-reviewed conferences or journals is desirable but not mandatory.
