Research / Project Positions

The appointee will assist the Team leader and team members. His/her task will include (i) arranging and assisting in data collection; (ii) conducting data analysis; (iii) assisting in drafting research proposals, operational manuals, templates and reports; (iv) drafting research manuscripts and other presentation materials for presentation/publication in conferences/journals; (v) organising seminars and conferences; and (vi) performing other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree, preferably with a Master's/MPhil degree in a related discipline; (ii) solid training and experience in research methods, (iii) excellent English and Chinese proficiency.

Applicants should have: (a) a recognized Bachelor's degree in Chinese Languages and Literature field, (b) research experience (c) excellent communication and interpersonal skills, (d) a positive attitude and ability to work well in a team, (e) proficiency in both written and spoken Chinese, and (f) proficiency in computer applications.

The appointee will be required to function as a member of a research team in the recruitment, assessment and data collection from older people who participate in the 'Loneliness in Older People' study. The appointee will also be required to manage and coordinate data collection, complete forms and maintain databases.

Applicants should have i) a Master's or Bachelor's degree in a health related discipline, like nursing or psychology; ii) some research experience and some knowledge of survey design research; iii) the ability to work independently, possess an investigative nature, attention to detail and an analytic aptitude; iv) familiarity with computer skills; v) excellent communication skills and fluency in English and Chinese language.

The appointee will support the Principal Investigator in a research project on Facebook news framing. Key responsibilities include:

• managing and coordinating the implementation of the overall project;
• assisting in data crawling;
• performing a mixed-method content analysis;
• reviewing literature and preparing reports;
• performing administrative tasks related to the project; and
• undertaking other duties as assigned by the project leader or her delegates.

Applicants should: 

• hold an honours degree in social sciences, computer sciences, or a related discipline;
• possess strong knowledge and skills in mixed-method content analysis;
• demonstrating proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and research-related software, with experience in data crawling techniques being an advantage;
• have an excellent command of both written and spoken English, as well as fluency in written Traditional Chinese and spoken Cantonese;
• be self-motivated, exhibit strong organisational skills, and have a strong sense of responsibility; and
• be a good team player who is also capable of working independently.

The appointee, as the "Centre Manager", will assist the Centre Director to oversee the daily operations of the Caregiver Research & Development Centre (CRC). Tasks will include:

• identify resources and assist to prepare and write up research or service project proposals,
• conduct research studies (quantitative and qualitative), and service projects on caregiving,
• conduct data analysis of the quantitative data and qualitative verbatim transcription independently,
• organize workshops, seminars, international conferences and other academic-related events,
• draft research manuscripts and powerpoints for publication / presentation in journals / conferences, as well as prepare teaching materials, manuals, forms, template and reports,
• communicate/liaise with collaborating organizations and experts,
• lead and supervise RAs and student helpers to carry out various tasks,
• assist the Centre Director to carry out financial management of and resource acquisition for the CRC,
• performing other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have

• a Master degree, preferably a PhD degree, in Social Sciences or a related field,
• at least 5 years of relevant research experiences,
• proficiency and experiences in quantitative and qualitative data analysis,
• excellent proficiency in oral and written English and Chinese,
• an ability to work independently & competently,
• experiences in supervising or working with other research staff.

The appointee will be responsible for assisting the research in the following FDS projects:

1. Towards Building Trustworthy and Practical Deep Clustering Net.
2. The tasks include preparing training dataset, designing and implementing the machine learning models and algorithms, performing ablation and comparison experiments, and conducting user studies, etc.
3. Appointment will be made on a contract basis for 3-12 months commencing at earliest convenience.

Applicants should

1. Have a bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology or related disciplines;
2. Have research experience in Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Be Proficiency with Python and machine learning/ data science libraries such as scikit-learn and pandas;
3. Have experience in algorithm design, computer network, or deep learning and be able to work independently;
4. Have good communication and interpersonal skills. Applicants with publication experience are preferred;
5. Have experience in conducting independent and collaborative research projects;

The appointee will assist the Centre Director in research related activities. These includes:

• Arranging and conducting survey, interviews & focus group discussions;
• Conducting data entry and analysis of the quantitative data and qualitative verbatim transcription;
• Drafting manuals, forms, templates, and reports;
• Assist in drafting research manuscripts and powerpoints for presentation/publication in conferences/journals;
• Assist in organizing workshops, seminars, international conferences and other academic-related events;
• Assist in communicating/liaising with collaborating organizations and experts;
• Assist in promotional activities, photo and video taking
• Performing other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have

• A Bachelor's degree, preferably with a Master's/MPhil degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline;
• Solid training and experience in research methods, both quantitative and qualitative, and in the use of SPSS software;
• Excellent English and Cantonese proficiency.

An appointment will initially be made on a contract basis for 1 year commencing Jan 2025, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.

The appointee will support the Principal Investigator in a research project on pro-environmental identity, employing a mixed methods sequential exploratory approach. Responsibilities include:

• managing and coordinating the implementation of the overall project;
• preparing research materials for both qualitative and quantitative studies;
• recruiting and liaising with participants;
• collecting, inputting, and analysing both qualitative and quantitative data;
• reviewing literature and preparing reports;
• performing administrative tasks related to the project; and
• undertaking other duties as assigned by the project leader or her delegates.

• hold an honours degree in social sciences or a related discipline, preferably in Psychology;
• possess strong knowledge and skills in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and data analysis;
• demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and research-related software such as SPSS, with experience in NVivo being an advantage;

The appointee will be responsible to assist administrative and coordinating work for the research project. Tasks include: (a) promoting and arranging the research study; (b) collecting data and conducting data analysis; (c) preparing meetings and reports; (d) organizing seminars and workshops; (d) performing other duties as assigned.

Applicants should (i) have a recognised Bachelor's degree; (ii) have relevant research experience in the handling of data entry, transcription and utilizing SPSS software analysis; (iii) be able to work independently, attention to detail with positive working attitude; and (iv) have good communication skills and fluency in English and Chinese.

Applicants should have

1. BSc(Hons)/BEng(Hons), MSc/MPhil, or PhD in Electronic Engineering, or Information Engineering, or Computing with interest in Hi-Tech development;
2. Preferably to have good knowledge and/or experience in AI and Deep Learning;
3. Be good at programming languages, including python programming; and
4. Knowledge in C, C++ and/or Assembly Language is definitely advantageous

The proposed study covers multiple research areas such as physicochemical, analytic and materials sciences, as well as microbiological studies.  The Research Assistant (RA) will be working on preparation of 3-chamber nanofibers using electrospinning instrument and assess the fabricated nanofibers for synergistic wound healing effect.  Apart from working in the laboratory, the Research Assistant is expected to present research findings at internal research seminars and external conferences. In addition, the Research Assistant will be required to prepare manuscripts for publication.

Applicants are required to hold a Master's degree in Material Science, Pharmaceutical Science, or Biochemistry and should be skilled in research methodology as well as in managing biological cultures and chemicals. The Research Assistant will be needed for a period of 24 months to support both the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators in completing a project funded by the Faculty Development Scheme of the Research Grants Council.

The appointee will assist the project leader and the team members in the research project – Mental Health and Everyday Prospective Memory in Older Adults: A Cross-sectional Survey Study. Duties include (a) conducting the literature review and draft reports; (b) data collection using questionnaires; (c) administrative and logistics work related to data collection and management; and (d) performing other duties as assigned by the research team.

Applicants should (a) have a recognized bachelor degree or above in social sciences or relevant disciplines; (b) have good knowledge and research skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and data analysis; (c) have good computer knowledge; SPSS are necessary; (d) have good command of both written and spoken in English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua); (e) have good interpersonal and communication skill; and (f) be able to work independently.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The appointee will be responsible to assist with the administrative and coordination of the research project. Tasks include: (a) making arrangement to ensure a smooth research study; (b) collecting data and conducting data analysis; (c) preparing reports; and (d) performing other assigned duties.

Applicants should have (i) a bachelor's degree in nursing, health science, gerontology, mental health or psychology; (ii) 3-4 years of research experience and knowledge of qualitative research; and (iii) some working experiences in gerontology and long-term care settings.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Apart from conducting research, securing external research grants, and undertaking research and scholarly tasks as the main duties, the appointee shall also be responsible for staff training in learning management system, and other assigned duties.  

Applicants should have (a) an earned and recognized Doctorate degree in either chemistry, biochemical sciences, material sciences or relevant disciplines; (b) previous experiences in handling biochemical research or pedagogic research, and (c) relevant teaching / professional / research experiences. Preference will be given to those with doctoral degree having teaching experience in degree programmes / proven research record.

Apart from conducting researches, securing external research grants, and undertaking research and scholarly tasks as the main duties, the appointee shall also be responsible for teaching in related areas, and other assigned duties.  

Applicants should have (a) an earned and recognized Doctorate degree in either nursing, health sciences, mental health, psychology or relevant disciplines; (b) previous experiences in handling qualitative research or in gerontology and long-term care, and healthcare issues, and (c) relevant teaching / professional / research experiences. Preference will be given to those with doctoral degree having teaching experience in degree programmes / proven research record. Less experience will be considered as Research Associate / Research Assistant.

The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator in all research related activities, include (i) arranging and conducting survey questionnaires, interviews & focus groups with parents; (ii) conducting data analysis of the quantitative data and qualitative verbatim transcription; (iii) assisting in drafting operational manuals, forms, templates and reports; (iv) drafting research manuscripts for presentation/publication in conferences/journals; (v) performing other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree, preferably with a Master's/MPhil degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline; (ii) solid training and experience in research methods, using SPSS software; (iii) excellent English and Chinese proficiency.

The appointee will be responsible to assist various tasks for the research projects. Tasks include: (a) programming and developing technologies for research projects; (b) assisting the work of system construction and maintenance of the project; (c) assisting teaching activities and providing supports for the research activities of the School; and (d) performing other duties as assigned.

Applicants should have (a) a bachelor's degree or master's degree in computer science or relevant fields; (b) familiarity with database management tools (such as SQL, MS Access, etc.); (c) knowledge and skills of programming (such as Python); (d) proficiency in image technology; and (e) able to work independently.

The appointees will (a) assist the work of painting, drawing, animation, video production, and photography relating to the Chinese culture project; (b) assist the work of data collection and analysis; and (c) perform other duties as assigned.

The appointee will be responsible for assisting the research in the following FDS projects:

Robust Graph-based Clustering: From Shallow to Deep [UGC/FDS11/E02/22].

The tasks include preparing training dataset, designing and implementing the machine learning models and algorithms, performing ablation and comparison experiments, and conducting user studies, etc.

Appointment will be made on a contract basis for 3-12 months commencing at earliest convenience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator to (a) collaborate with the research team to design and conduct experiments related to electrostatic precipitators for indoor air purification; (b) develop and implement IoT-based monitoring systems to assess air quality parameters; (c) collect and analyze data to evaluate the performance of the electrostatic precipitators and propose improvements; (d) contribute to the publication of research findings in scientific journals and present results at conferences; and (e) work closely with the project lead and team members to ensure the project's objectives are met.

Applicants should (a) be a fresh graduate in computer science from a local university; (b) have strong background and expertise in the field of engineering; (c) be familiarity with IoT (Internet of Things) technologies and their application in environmental monitoring; and (d) be proficient in data analysis and scientific software.

 Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The appointee is required to work as a team member in conducting research studies within the School. Duties include conducting literature review, data collection and analysis, report writing and supporting all matters related to the research projects.

Applicants should (a) have a recognized bachelor degree or above in social sciences or relevant disciplines; (b) have good knowledge and research skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and data analysis; (c) have good computer knowledge; SPSS, MPLUS (in multilevel CFA and Rasch Modelling) are necessary; (d) have good command of both written and spoken in English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua); (e) have good interpersonal and communication skill; and (f) be able to work independently.

One candidate will be appointed for each of the three different disciplines of Accounting & Finance / Corporate Administration; Entrepreneurship / Management; and Hotel & Tourism / Marketing. Each of them will assist in administrative and coordinating work of (a) research project(s). Tasks include: (a) conducting literature review; (b) collecting and analysing data; (c) managing and updating databases; (d) preparing reports; and (e) others as assigned.

The appointee will be responsible to assist staff members within the School to conduct administrative and coordinating research activities and research projects. Tasks include: (a) literature search, (b) coordinating research work, (c) collecting data and conducting data analysis; (d) preparing reports; and (d) performing other duties as assigned.

Applicants should have (i) at least a bachelor's degree in nursing, health science, allied health backgrounds, or statistics-related qualifications; (ii) 3-4 years of research experience and knowledge of quantitative research, and prior experience of conducting statistical analysis are preferred.

The appointee will be responsible for assisting the research of Artificial Intelligence Research project (ITBG190103).

The tasks include algorithm design, training data preparation, implementing the designed algorithms and so on. Appointment will be made on a contract basis for 3-12 months commencing at earliest convenience.

Applicants should

(i) have a bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology or related disciplines;

(ii) have experience in algorithm design, computer network, or deep learning the be able to work independently;

(iii) have good communication and interpersonal skills. Applicants with publication experience are preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Both projects involve academic and industrial values, and heavy study of Machine Learning technologies, including Deep Learning for engineering and scientific applications. The applicant must be interested in Machine Learning, with background and interest in Signal Processing, Video and Image Processing, Computer Vision and good at Python programming. Applicants who are good at GUI programming knowledge will certainly have advantage.

Appointees taking up these Research and Development projects will (i) conduct Research and Development work on the production of demonstration systems at industrial standard and also produce high-level research papers in international academic journals, on the above topics.

For Research Fellow (at the level of assistant professor in research), applicants should have (i) PhD degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or in related areas with the ability to conduct research independently in the above subject areas, (ii) strong technical English writing skills as evidenced by prior technical publications and (iii) good presentation skills as evidenced by prior experience to present technical papers.

For Research Associate/Research Assistant, applicants should have (i) master degree or BSc(Hons)/BEng(Hons) degree in the related areas or BSc(hons)/BEng(hons) degree with 1^st or 2.1 honors, with interest and studied subject areas in the above topics, (ii) strong intention to become a professional in Machine Learning. 

Note: (1) For PhD holders with insufficient experience in the subject area or without a sufficiently good related publication record may join the research initially as a Research Associate. (2) Appropriate candidates with a bachelor or master degree may be supported by the Institute to register for a PhD degree with a local or overseas university.

The appointee will be responsible to assist administrative and coordinating work for the research project. Tasks include: (a) arranging the research study; (b) collecting data and conducting data analysis; (c) preparing reports; (d) organizing seminars and workshops; (d) performing other duties as assigned.

The appointee will be responsible for assisting the research in one of the following FDS projects:

1) Deep Comic Screening via Tone-aware Semantic Layer Analysis [UGC/FDS11/E01/21]
2) Instance-aware Cartoon Stylization of Photo and Videos [UGC/FDS11/E02/21]
3) Chinese Calligraphic Animation Generation via Deep Stroke Segmentation and Contour-based Trajectory Identification [UGC/FDS11/E03/22]

 The tasks include preparing training dataset, implementing the designed algorithms, performing ablation and comparison experiments, and conducting user studies, etc.

 Appointment will be made on a contract basis for 6-12 months commencing at earliest convenience.

Applicants should (i) have a bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology or related disciplines; (ii) have experience in deep learning or image processing research and be able to work independently; (iii) be able to develop deep learning applications using the deep learning libraries, e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.; and (iv) have good communication and interpersonal skills. Applicants with publication experience are preferred.
