At the invitation of the Yunnan Overseas Chinese Federation, a delegation from Saint Francis University visited Yunnan Province from May 11 to 15, 2025. The week-long visit laid a solid foundation for future collaboration across education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Led by Dr. Aries Chan, Director of the Global and Mainland Engagement Division, the delegation engaged in meaningful discussions with government officials and academic institutions, exploring opportunities to expand cooperation and drive development across key sectors.
During a meeting with the Yunnan All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, both sides discussed plans for future exchange activities. The Federation expressed interest in co-organizing cultural and academic events during the summer, aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and engagement between students from both regions.
The delegation also met with four secretaries of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), expressing hopes to support youth development and foster effective cultural and educational exchanges.
In the higher education sector, the delegation held productive talks with Vice President Gang Zhou of Yunnan Technology and Business University. The two sides explored collaboration opportunities in education, research, and vocational training. The delegation emphasized the value of inter-university partnerships in providing students with enhanced internship and employment prospects.
At Haiyuan College of Kunming Medical University, the delegation explored possible partnerships in nursing and medical education. As the largest medical school in Yunnan Province, Haiyuan College is known for its achievements in education and research. The delegation praised the institution's academic model and expressed interest in formalizing further collaboration to advance medical education and joint research.
The visit also included discussions with the leadership of Xinhua Technical School of Yunnan. Both sides identified opportunities in technical training and vocational development. These discussions align closely with Saint Francis University's mission as a university of applied sciences, aiming to promote regional integration of education and workforce development while enhancing students' practical skills and global competitiveness.
