Prof LO Tit Wing, the Acting President of Saint Francis University (SFU), was invited to join Orange News Programme 'Warm Talking' (圍爐) with Legislative Councillor Mr Lawrence TANG. They discussed the development of SFU after it granted a university title and became a University of Applied Sciences (UAS), such as having Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) as a main theme, introducing the programme offered, and the admission overview.
They also discussed how the management system of SFU ensures good governance and teaching quality, and mentioned the student support services, including counseling, career planning, student activities, SEN support and specialized support for ethnic minority students. Moreover, SFU as a full member of the Alliance of UAS, the programme design is closely integrated with the industry, in order to promote VPET, avoid mismatches in the manpower market, and change the traditional concepts of parents and students about education, thus strengthen Hong Kong education development.
Prof LO talked about SFU's concept of community engagement and public services, such as holding mass in the campus chapel, setting up a Community Health Centre, a Community Pharmacy, and a Resource and Support Centre for Carers. In the future, an Elder Academy will be established in the new Shatin campus to provide a university experience for the elderly that is free of assessment and tuition fees, and set up a Community Health and Professional Training Centre to care for the physical and mental needs of people from different age groups.
Finally, Prof LO mentioned that SFU has joined an Alliance of Catholic Tertiary Institutions in Asia, and will apply for joining the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) in the future. Through this platform, SFU will be able to collaborate with overseas universities, and attract Catholic students with diversified backgrounds, both domestic and overseas.
