SFU’s MoU with Association of Motion Picture Post Production Professionals

20 Mar 2026

The Department of Design of Saint Francis University (SFU) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Association of Motion Picture Post Production Professionals (AMP4) at AI Hub during the FILMART, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. This marks a significant milestone for academia and the film and post‑production industry in talent development and in deepening industry–academia partnerships. The aim is to jointly nurture post‑production professionals who meet industry needs while advancing the high‑quality development of Hong Kong's creative media sector.

The MOU was signed by Mr Mak Chun Hung, President of AMP4 and Mr Gary Lam, Department Head of Design of SFU. The signing ceremony was witnessed by President of SFU Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, Provost Professor Annie Bligh, Senior Lecturer cum Programme Leader of Higher Diploma in Film and Media Production Mr Chan Shu Chi, and Head of the Industry-University Partnerships Office Ms Joanna Kwok. The MOU represents the shared vision of the academic and industry sectors in fostering the development of Hong Kong's creative industries.

Under the MOU, SFU and AMP4 will jointly enhance the University's existing design and film-related programmes to ensure that the curriculum remains aligned with the latest technologies and professional standards in post-production and visual creativity. AI‑related professional and practical elements will be introduced, including post-production workflows, visual design, colour science, digital imaging, and motion graphics. All of these aim to enable students to acquire essential industry-relevant skills and strengthen their career competitiveness.

This collaboration will expand internships and practical opportunities for students. It highlights SFU's commitment, as a pioneering University of Applied Sciences, to driving research and industry collaboration while advancing knowledge innovation and talent development. Leveraging AMP4's network, SFU students can access internships and practical projects at professional post-production companies. This real-world experience helps them grasp industry operations, build competitive portfolios, and fully prepare for their careers.

Professor Cheung said, "This MOU further strengthens the connection between SFU and the professional film post-production sector, providing students with learning, internships, and project opportunities that closely align with current industry practices. By integrating academic learning with industry practice, we are promoting partnerships across education, research, and industry. This synergy allows knowledge innovation and talent development to drive one another, allowing us to collectively nurture professionals for Hong Kong's creative industries."

Representatives of both parties believe that the MOU would help foster closer and longer-term collaboration between the education sector and the creative media industry. Mr Mak said, "We are delighted that this collaboration will help nurture a new generation of local talent equipped with creativity, technical competence, and practical experience, and contribute to the continued development of Hong Kong's film post-production and digital media industries."

This MOU establishes a platform for closer partnerships between the University and the industry, and will further support the development of film and media production-related programmes. SFU looks forward to combining industry expertise with its applied education approach to continuously enhance students' practical skills and creative vision, and to nurture professionals who can meet the needs of Hong Kong's creative media and film post-production industries.
