On 6 June 2018, Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) has received HK$5 million donations from Alfar Charitable Fund (Alfar) and GS Charity Foundation respectively in support of two professorships in the School of Business and Hospitality Management (BHM) in the next five years in order to further enhance teacher qualification of the School.
In addition to professorships, Alfar Charitable Trust also made a one-off donation of HK$1 million to set up a scholarship for students in both CIHE and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers. This will help 25 students financially to complete their 4-year degree programmes.
Speaking in the ceremony, Mr. Raymond Cheng, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Alfar, recognised the trend of digitalisation in the hospitality industry, and that nurturing tech-savvy hoteliers is a great contribution to the industry. He hoped that the donation can help achieve this goal.
Mr. Kant Kwong, Director and Deputy General Manager of the Glorious Sun Holdings Limited, acknowledged CIHE's mission of encouraging students to lead a creative, positive and proactive life.
On behalf of the two institutions, Rev Joseph Yim, Chief Executive of Caritas – Hong Kong, and President Dr Kim Mak thanked the generous support of the two donors. Fr Yim indicated that the fund will be used to employ two experienced professors with technological knowledge and research capabilities for School of BHM, supporting the strategic advancement of CIHE as the future Saint Francis University.
Professor Susana Yuen, Dean of School of BHM, welcomed Professor Chan Koon Hung to join CIHE. Professor Chan was the former Head of Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Business, in Lingnan University. Professor Yuen believed that Professor Chan will bring CIHE to a new level in academic research. Professor Yuen is also in active search for a professor with achievements in IT application in the industry.
