Thanks to the generous annual donation from the Joyce M Kuok Foundation for the consecutive four years, Caritas Institute of Higher Education is able to continue offering admission scholarships for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physiotherapy (BScPT) programme.
The scholarships are awarded to students who have obtained outstanding academic results in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) and are dedicated to studying physiotherapy. In addition to admission scholarships, the foundation also offers special scholarships to students with excellent academic results and bursaries to students who face financial difficulties.
Ken MOK, one of the recipients of the Joyce M Kuok Foundation Admission Scholarship, obtained a total of 22 scores for the best 5 subjects in the HKDSE and placed the BScPT programme among his top three choices in the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). He expressed his gratitude to the donor, saying, "I am grateful for the donor's recognition of the programme; this scholarship relieved my economic burden so that I could obtain a tablet computer to facilitate my studies."
MOK has aspired to be a physiotherapist since his secondary school days. He was deeply impressed by the treatments of professional physiotherapists when he spent his leisure time volunteering in an elderly-related programme. Living with his granny in a tenement building with no lift, he empathises with the tiredness of his granny and is dedicated to entering the physiotherapy programme to learn the skills that could help his granny and other elderly people.
MOK has been fully committed to his studies. He has been downloading notes and materials to his tablet to prepare for the massive intake of foundation knowledge and theories of physiotherapy. Even during the summer, he has been attending the summer semester to catch up on lessons and better adapt to his second year of studies.
MOK is eager to learn more therapeutic skills and knowledge about geriatric studies so that he could apply manual therapies and pain management skills, such as exercising and posture management, to facilitate the quality of life of his patients.
