Celebration of Professional Accreditation of SFU Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physiotherapy Programme

The Saint Francis University (SFU) is pleased to announce that the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physiotherapy (BSc (Hons) PT) programme has obtained professional accreditation from the Supplementary Medical Professions Council in June. The upcoming graduates will be qualified for registration as physiotherapists and practice in Hong Kong, and application of Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association membership.

The SFU held an Accreditation Ceremony on 1 August, the representative of the Supplementary Medical Professions Council, Mr Tony AU Tat-kwong, the President of the Hong Kong Physiotherapists' Union, Mrs Eleanor CHAN, and the President of the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association, Mr Alexander WOO, were invited. The SFU was represented by Prof LO Tit Wing, the Acting President, Prof Eric CHAN, Dean of the S.K. Yee School of Health Sciences and Professor Arran LEUNG, Programme Leader of the BSc (Hons) PT programme.

Addressing the Ceremony, Prof LO Tit Wing thanked the Supplementary Medical Professions Council for awarding the professional accreditation to the programme, and appreciated the continuous support of the government, the Hospital Authority and the industrial partners. He pledged that the SFU would continue to contribute to the community by nurturing future medical talents with both professionalism and ethics.

Prof CHAN Lu Shek Eric said the academic staff will continue to strive for excellence in training outstanding physiotherapists for the community. He also thanked the Education Bureau for allocating HK$32 million to the SFU to establish a Physiotherapy Clinic and a Community Primary Care Centre, and also a Physiotherapy Simulation Laboratory, in order to provide better physiotherapy services to the community, and at the same time the preparation of students for clinical practicum can be strengthened, thus enhancing the practicum effectiveness.

The SFU is pleased to receive 2 million donations from The Joyce M Kuok Foundation, and 1 million donations from Mr and Mrs Henry H. H. CHAN, to support the establishment of a scholarship for students who study BSc (Hons) PT programme.

The SFU has offered BSc (Hons) PT programme since the 2020/21 academic year, and has been included in the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) since the 2021/22 academic year. The Joyce M Kuok Foundation has donated 2 million to the programme for four consecutive years since 2021 to award admission scholarships to students who have obtained outstanding academic results in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) and are dedicated to studying physiotherapy, and special scholarships to students with excellent academic results and bursaries to students who face financial difficulties.
The BSc (Hons) PT programme of the SFU has obtained professional accreditation. An Accreditation Ceremony was held on 1 August.
