Special Mass to Pray for Victims of the Fire Tragedy in Tai Po

05 Dec 2025
With the community grieving over the fire tragedy in Tai Po, Saint Francis University (SFU) has been doing its best to support and care for the fire victims and those affected through different events and activities. Earlier today (5 December), a special Mass was held on campus to pray for the peaceful rest of the souls of those who lost their lives during the blaze and the early recovery of the injured as well as offering comfort and support to those affected by the tragedy.

President of SFU Prof Stephen CHEUNG Yan-leung said the University community had started a fundraising campaign to help support those students affected by the blaze, including the waiving of their tuition fees and the granting of subsistence allowances.

SFU's Student Affairs Office has also been providing counselling services for students who are in need of emotional support during this difficult time.

In a related move, the University has decided that the 2025 Graduation Ceremony, originally scheduled for 12th and 13th December 2025, will be postponed. Tentatively, the Ceremony is expected to be held in late February next year, with details to be announced in due course.
