Saint Francis University (SFU) today held a plaque unveiling ceremony for its university motto and hosted the inaugural "Strive for Self-Excellence" Distinguished Talk, kicking off celebrations for the 2nd anniversary of its renaming. The inaugural talk featured Mr Henry Fan Hung-ling, Chairman of the Hospital Authority, in dialogue with Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of SFU, sharing insights on public service, healthcare development in Hong Kong, professional training, youth opportunities and applied sciences education.
SFU launched the Distinguished Talk Series to foster exchange between the University, industry and the wider community, while broadening students' horizons. As a pioneering University of Applied Sciences in Hong Kong, SFU values academia-industry collaboration and offers health sciences programmes including nursing, physiotherapy and pharmaceutical dispensing. SFU is also the largest training institution for registered nurses in Hong Kong, with around 3,000 nursing students.
Professor Cheung said, "The 2nd anniversary of our retitling marks a new stage in our development. The University will continue to strengthen its positioning as a University of Applied Sciences, deepen industry collaboration, and advance teaching, research and knowledge transfer to nurture professionals with applied skills for society's future needs."
Mr Fan said, "'Strive for Self-Excellence' embodies a spirit of continuous improvement and a readiness to take on responsibility. In the face of an ageing population and rising healthcare demand, Hong Kong's healthcare system will need more talent with both professional competence and a strong sense of service."
