Leveraging Enormous Development Potential of UAS
22 May 2026
Saint Francis University (SFU), a pioneer in the development of Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Hong Kong and a member of the Alliance of Universities of Applied Sciences, has been actively expanding its Mainland and international partnership network to advance applied science education and nurture professional talent.
SFU President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-Leung paid a visit to Germany as part of the high-level delegation of the "Task Group on Planning and Development of the University Town". During the visit, he gained insights into the pivotal role of UAS in innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems and drawing on relevant experience for developments in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Professor Cheung said, "UAS hold enormous development potential. They not only align more closely with the needs of society and industry, but also play a vital role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, promoting industry-academia-research collaboration, and facilitating knowledge transfer. This will help steer higher education towards a more diverse and forward-looking direction."
He added, "The exchanges with our counterparts enabled us to draw invaluable lessons from Germany's experience in advancing applied science education, and to further reflect on the future direction of Hong Kong and GBA. SFU will continue to leverage its strengths to drive curriculum innovation, strengthen collaboration with industry and international partners, and nurture talents with professional competence and a global outlook. Through sustained exchanges and collaboration, we also look forward to playing an active role in supporting related developments in Hong Kong and GBA, in response to the needs of society and national development."
