Snapshots of the Seminar and Workshop Series in Digital Entertainment and Toy Computing (21 Mar 2016)

The School of Computing and Information Sciences organized two interesting seminars on digital entertainment on 21 March 2016. Chaired by Dr Jeff Tang from the School, the seminars kicked off with the first speaker, Professor Tien-tsin Wong from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, sharing his research findings on computational manga and anime. Professor Zixue Cheng from the University of Aizu then introduced his latest research on wearable gadgets and their application in digital entertainment to an inquisitive audience of over 70 students and staff members. These two seminars formed part of the Seminar and Workshop Series in Digital Entertainment and Toy Computing organized by the School in conjunction with the Open University of Hong Kong. The series is funded by the Research Grant Council and aims at promoting interest in digital entertainment and related areas.

Since fall 2015, six seminars have been held, featuring renowned scholars from all over the world, including Hong Kong. In February this year, Prof Michael Cohen form the University of Aizu and Dr Benson Shu-yan Lam from Hang Seng Management College were invited to hold seminars o 3D media technologies here at our institute. Apart from seminars, a range of workshops on Arduino kit sets, 3D media techniques and gadget design were also successfully held. Members of the School were pleased to see teachers and scholars from other institutions as well as our own staff and students treasuring the opportunity to interact with each other made possible by the workshop series.
