Associate Professor of Practice Dr Tiffany CHOI and Lecturer Ms Joyce TSANG from the S.K. Yee School of Health Sciences, SFU, led 75 physiotherapy students to participate in an elderly healthcare event on 1 Oct 2024.

The event was organized by the Chung Sing Benevolent Society in collaboration with the Hong Kong Physiotherapists' Union (HKPU), the SFU and The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation Jockey Club Geriatric Rejuvenation Hub. Four physiotherapists from the HKPU led 75 SFU physiotherapy students to assess the risk of sarcopenia and falls for 200 elderly people aged 60 or above in the community. The results showed that 14% of the elders were more likely to suffer from sarcopenia, 9% were at high risk of falls, and 20% were at moderate risk of falls, which were higher than the expected figures.

Dr Tiffany CHOI and Ms Joyce TSANG also gave a talk on sarcopenia and fall prevention exercise therapy and dietary advice on prevention of muscle loss respectively, to raise the awareness of sarcopenia and fall prevention among the elderly in the community.
