From Classroom to Silicon Valley: SFU's Student Venture Makes Its Mark at CUPP 2025
18 Jun 2025
Saint Francis University (SFU) is delighted to announce that Spark Legacy D-Day, a student-led startup founded by three part-time students from our Bachelor of Entrepreneurial Management (Honours) in Design Business (BEMDB) programme, has been selected as one of the finalist teams for Cyberport's University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2025 - a highly prestigious and selective entrepreneurship programme organised by Cyberport Academy for local university students.
This pioneering venture, offering an innovative e-will platform powered by Web3 and blockchain technologies, was ideated under the guidance of the Innovative Incubation Centre (IIC)—our in-house entrepreneurship hub dedicated to nurturing bold ideas and business talent.
Led by students who are not only developing business solutions for tomorrow, but also actively enrolled in the very programme designed to foster entrepreneurial design thinking, Spark Legacy D-Day exemplifies the kind of interdisciplinary innovation SFU champions. The team also had the privilege of being taught and mentored by Dr Ken IP, Assistant Professor at the Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management and Associate Director of the IIC.
Representing SFU at the CUPP 2025 Opening Ceremony held at Cyberport on 14 June, Dr IP reaffirmed our university's commitment to supporting student founders and equipping them with the mentorship, tools, and networks needed to thrive in the startup world.
As finalists, the team will join other top innovators this August at the Entrepreneurship Boot Camp at Draper University in Silicon Valley, followed by investor pitching and the opportunity to secure HK$100,000 in seed funding.
This achievement underscores not only the talent and determination of our students, but also the growing impact of the IIC as a catalyst for real-world innovation and venture development at SFU.
Congratulations to Spark Legacy D-Day—your journey is just beginning.
