Q1: What is Physiotherapy?
A1: Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with human health by restoring, maintaining and maximizing one's physical potential - strength, function, movement, and overall well-being within the spheres of promotion, prevention, diagnosis, intervention, evaluation, habilitation and rehabilitation.
Q2: What are the duties of Physiotherapists?
A2: After performing detailed assessments and making physical diagnosis, physiotherapists use physical and non-pharmaceutical approaches to treat, promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being of individuals with dysfunction in musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. These approaches include eletro-physical modalities, therapeutic exercises, manual therapy and hydrotherapy. In recent years, with the use of advanced technology, robot-assisted devices, computer-based devices and tele-rehabilitation have been widely deployed in physiotherapy.
Q3: If I have not studied Biology/ Physics, can I apply?
For applicants with DSE entry route, scores of their best 5 subjects will be considered. Biology or Physics or Combined Science (Biology and Physics) will have an advantage.
Q4: Is this Physiotherapy programme recognized by the professional registration board in Hong Kong?
Professional accreditation by the Physiotherapists Board is an ongoing progress. School envisions that professional recognition will be granted before graduation of the first cohort of students. Upon successful accreditation, graduates will be qualified for practice as registered physiotherapists in Hong Kong.
Q5: Will acupuncture will be taught in this programme?
Yes, theories about traditional Chinese medicine, common Chinese therapeutic methods and practice of acupuncture will be taught in the third year of the programme.
Q6: Will clinical practicum be arranged for students in this programme?
More than 1000 hours of clinical practicum will be arranged in different settings including hospital in-patient and out-patient departments, non-governmental organizations, community-based rehabilitation centres, private clinics and special schools. Students have to complete all the assigned practicum successfully for the partial fulfilment of the graduation requirements.
Q7: On graduation, can I start my own clinic?
On successful accreditation by the Physiotherapists Board, graduates will be qualified for registration and may have no restrictions of practice.
Q8: Do physiotherapists have to work on night shift in hospital settings?
Normally physiotherapists are not required to work on night shift.
