Campus Life Instilled with Value Education (CamLIVE)
Campus Life Instilled with Value Education (CamLIVE)
Dr. Anna Ng
Campus Life Instilled with Value Education (CamLIVE) is a campus-wide value education project which aims to enhance the value education of Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) and its sister Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) through various strategies of fostering students' learning and campus life. The objectives of the project include:
- To establish a Caritas Value Education Center in CIHE and CBCC
- To implement whole institute value education programmes for students, including the promotion of positive attitudes and behaviors based on the five Catholic core values, the promotion of national identity from relevant issues of Basic Law and National Security Law, as well as the promotion of environmental friendliness concepts and practices though activities like the green campus campaign
- To develop an online transcript system to record students' participation in value education activities.
The concept of Value Education at CIHE and CBCC is embedded in the five Catholic core values of Life, Truth, Justice, Family and Love:
- Life is the condition and factor for the promotion and development of all values; it is linked to human dignity and to everyone's development in the journey of self-fulfillment.
- Truth is what the human intellect searches for, and the process is attained through the development of wisdom and knowledge; that is why the development of both these two elements is indispensable in the post-secondary education.
- Justice is deeply connected with the dignity of all persons, is the natural result of equality and equity, and it is necessary for attaining the common good in society.
- Family is understood in two ways: as the vital cell of society where we were born and grew up, and as society as a whole based on the awareness that we are all brothers and sisters living in this world, our common home.
- Love is the greatest of all virtues and is what gives each one of the other four values a rich meaning in our lives, because love requires self-offering to others, going beyond all selfish intentions and actions.
With the proposed ComLIVE project, CIHE and CBCC will be able to promote value education through relevant curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for students' character formation and development that are in line with the above Catholic core values. Students' sense of belonging to our society and country (value of 'Family') and their identity as national Chinese will also be cultivated through the related activities.
