The WELEAP project is a campus-wide psychological well-being enhancement life education advancement project which aims to equip students with stronger inner power to face different kinds of stress and challenges in their learning journey and assist them to leap higher in their academic performance. This is a joint project co-organized by the Saint Francis University (SFU) and the Caritas Bianchi College and Careers (CBCC).   The primary objective of this project is to promote the mental health or psychological wellbeing of students through life education activities so as to strengthen their resilience to cope with the academic stress and challenges in higher education.

This project is an advancement of our Life Education Programme developed in 2023 (Appendix I).  There are a total of seven SDF and six LEC themes in our Life Education Programme.  Both SFU and CBCC have been making effort in promoting life education in general, the current WELEAP project will focus on a few Student Desirable Feature (SDF 6) and Life Education Competencies (LEC1 and 6) themes which are closely related to mental health or psychological well-being.  The following illustrates the meaning of SDF6, LEC1 and 6.

SDF6: Confident individual who has a clear sense of purpose and positive outlook through life planning

LEC1: Attitude towards life

LEC6: Self-knowledge (awareness of oneself) and Value Development skills

Objectives of WELEAP project

  1.  To establish a Unit for Mental Health Promotion (精神健康促進隊) serving students of SFU and CBCC at the end of the project.
  2.  To implement mental health awareness life education programmes for all students, including
  3. the early identification of students with needs of mental health support;
  4. the enhancement of resilience of our students;
  5. the strengthening of our students' strategies in coping with academic stress in higher education, and
  6. the enhancement of the communication/interaction between teachers and students.
  7.  To establish outcome assessment tools for psychological well-being life education programme

A set of validated outcome measures would be adopted for the assessing the effectiveness of the project. Besides, an evaluation of the holistic health and its associated factors (e.g., life styles, religiosity, and spirituality) will also be examined.  Based on the results obtained, suggestions for managing healthy lifestyle would be recommended.

Through the promotion of physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being and fostering a healthy lifestyle, students can strengthen their resilience in coping with the academic stress and challenges in higher education as well as in tackling various stresses in daily life.
