Mr LAI was a community social worker working with residents in urban slum before he joined the CIHE. He has been actively advocating for measures on decent housing to deprived households in low-ended private rental sector. He founded the Hong Kong Subdivided Flats Concerning Platform with a group of frontline social workers, policy researchers and academics in 2012 and acted as the convener thereafter until 2019 when he founded a social enterprise, ComHome Social Housing Platform to delivery and advocate social housing in Hong Kong. He also serve as executive committee members in various NGOs. Besides teaching social work practice and social policy courses, he has also been organising social exposure programmes for social sciences students in the past decade.
