Ms Connie CHAN is a Lecturer of Saint Francis University Felizberta Lo Padilla Tong School of Social Sciences and has gained nearly thirty years of working experience in children and youth services. She is particularly experienced in children residential services, staff supervision, administration and management. She is deeply interested in children and adolescents with behavioral problems and special needs, marital counselling, parenting, family work, children residential services, mental health service, and life and death education. While she was studying the Master Degree of Social Work in the University of Hong Kong, she had conducted a thesis study on "Stress and Coping: Parents with Behavioral Problem Children". In addition, in the period of working in the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, she had been involved in writing some booklet publications and radio broadcast on parenting in RTHK, and the Handbook of Self-Esteem Enhancement for Children and Youth.
Her career profile prior to teaching includes working in agencies of different scales, that is from small to large agencies and both the public and private sectors. They are the Social Welfare Department, Caritas Hong Kong, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Yan Oi Tong and Sisters of Precious Blood Precious Blood Children's Village. She have had the richest experience of working in children residential service for nearly twenty years.
Ms Connie CHAN holds an Honours Diploma in Social Work from Hong Kong Baptist College, the Master Degrees of Social Work from the University of Hong Kong and the Master Degree of Arts in Social Work (Research Studies) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University respectively. She has also received training and practicum courses on Administration and Management, Mental Health, Positive Psychology, Structured Play Therapy, Child-Centred Play Therapy, Horticultural Therapy, Enneagram, Personality Dynamic, Projective Drawing, Story-Telling, Life and Death Education and so on.
Although Ms CHAN has attained six years of teaching experience in Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE), before teaching in CIHE, she has acted as an agency fieldwork supervisor to conduct supervision to both the students of Master Degree in Social Work from the University of Hong Kong and the students of Bachelor Degree in Social Work from the City University of Hong Kong. Besides, she has also involved in coordinating the fieldwork placements of both the Bachelor Degree and Master Degree of Social Work from the Shue Yan University, and also the fieldwork placements of both the Master Degrees of Counselling from the University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong.
By using the audio-visual materials, games and activities, she develops lesson plans to fulfil the needs of individual students so as to make the learning more fun, to engage and to help students become better, stronger learners. Ms CHAN enjoy and treasure the moments of interacting and sharing with students from different backgrounds and is excited to take up the challenges ahead at CIHE.
