Biography

I am the Associate Director of Centre for Excellence and an Assistant Professor in School of Computing and Information Sciences at Caritas Institute of Higher Education. I received my BEng degree in computer engineering in 1999 and my PhD degree in 2005 at The University of Hong Kong. Before joining CIHE, I was an instructor in the Department of Computer Science in The University of Hong Kong.
I deeply involved in ACM-HK Collegiate Programming Contest in the past decade. I started serving as Judge in the contest since 2008 and served as the Chief Judge in the contest 6 times between 2010 and 2016.

Teaching

In my teaching career in CIHE and HKU, I taught subjects in various areas, including Data Mining, Database Systems, Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Mobile Computing, Mathematics and IT Literacy. The courses spanned across Diploma to Master levels. I also supervised nearly 20 Final Year Projects for computing major undergraduates and Master Projects for taught MSc(CS) students on various topics including stock quote analysis and visualization, trade signal generation and dissemination, electric discharge signal analysis, and mobile app for education.

Research

My main research interest is on data mining and data management techniques for unconventional data, such as uncertain data and sequence data. My current research focus is to analyse sequences like stock quotes and health records to find useful hidden patterns from huge amount of source data. Those data contained a lot of noises, and may not be 100% accurate. My current work is on how to apply data mining tasks such as classification and clustering on such data.
I am currently a professional member of ACM and IEEE.
