Dr. Maria Hung is currently a Professor at the School of Health Sciences, the Caritas Institute of Higher Education. She has more than 20 years of experience as a teaching faculty in several tertiary education institutions, including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Tung Wah College. Dr. Hung has a solid teaching record, principally teaching undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programs.
Before working as teaching faculty in tertiary education institutions, she had around 15 years of clinical nursing experience. Besides, she has attended local and overseas disaster, emergency, and trauma nursing training, virtual reality, and simulation courses. Dr. Hung actively participates in various professional training and community volunteer services locally.
Dr. Hung's research interests originated from her rich emergency nursing experience, focusing on the end-of-life and bereavement care provided by professional nurses in the emergency department. She has extended her research interests to explore the effectiveness of disaster education and psychological wellbeing among healthcare professionals and the general public. To enhance future professional nurses' competency in responding to public health emergencies and disaster events and provide psychological and life support for the general public.
