Biography

Dr Li earned her PhD in linguistics from the University of Hong Kong and joined Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) in 2015. She specializes in bilingualism and language contact, particularly pidgins and creoles of the Asia-Pacific region. She studies extensively the historical development and grammar of Chinese Pidgin English. Her recent projects include the construction of a corpus of Chinese Pidgin English funded by the Research Grants Council (RGC), the use of contact varieties of English in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and the grammar of a Hokkien-Spanish pidgin spoken in the Philippines.
