Dr Liu received her BA (Hons) in English Literature at Aberystwyth University, Wales, and she then went on to complete an MPhil and PhD at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. Her research focuses on English poetry from 1680 – 1830, and she is especially interested in postcolonial perspectives during the Enlightenment era, in addition to representations of dissent in the Romantic period. Her PhD thesis, titled "John Keats and Aspects of Christianity, 1600-1821", discusses the effects of religious dissent on Romantic poetry.
Dr Liu is also the Fellow and Secretary of the Keats Foundation, a UK-based charity that hosts the annual Keats Conference for academics all over the world.
