Dr WONG has a wide range of academic interests. He majored in Business Administration for his undergraduate degree, with a minor in Chinese Language and Literature. Having completed the Master degree in Language Studies, he participated in the study of HowNet-based corpus in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and then joined a Language Technology Company, so he has acquired a basic knowledge of Computational Linguistics. He studied the PhD degree in the Department of Linguistics of the University of Hong Kong, with the research focus in the semantic annotation of Chinese texts based on HowNet. He is particularly interested in the contrastive analysis of Putonghua, Cantonese and English. After graduating from his PhD degree, he has taught Chinese language courses in tertiary institutions, covering the fields of Chinese culture, literature and linguistics. Outside of work, he continued to study languages and has attained the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and Grade 2, Level A of the National Putonghua Proficiency Test. Dr Wong is a lover of Chinese chess. Apart from participating in Hong Kong Chinese Chess competitions, he also organizes various competitions and has taught Chinese Chess in tertiary institutions to promote Chinese culture.
