Mr Fong mainly teaches English language courses inclusive of specialized academic writing and general English at the Caritas Institute of Higher Education and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers. His students are from a wide range of academic disciplines: Social Work, Health Care, Pharmaceutical Dispensing, Design, and Nursing. He also serves as a member and representative in several institutional teams for different re-accreditation exercises and well-established higher diploma programmes. His pleasures are playing electric guitar, listening to music, making models, and travelling.
Mr Fong has also been working in the sector of Education for many years since he obtained his first degree in Language Studies at the City University of Hong Kong. Prior to working in the Caritas Institute of Higher Education, he was a teaching associate and module coordinator for different English language modules in the Vocational Training Council in Hong Kong. His major academic reading and learning interest includes English for general and specific purposes, applied linguistics, hedges and interactional metadiscourse.
Mr Fong mainly teaches institutional and compulsory language courses for sub-degree students. The courses focus on general training and practical use of language with meaningful and authentic context. He also teaches academic and specialized reading, writing, and hedging related topics to various nursing schools in Hong Kong. Other than classroom teaching, he regularly designs, shares, and offers tailor-made teaching and learning materials to academic colleagues and students. He also provides constructive and valuable feedback to his students in both lectures and tutorials.
Mr Fong participated in the Hong Kong Continuing and Professional Development Hub for university English teachers virtual international conference on 8th-10th January 2021 at The University of Hong Kong. The topic of his paper presentation is 'Searching for hedges across academic subjects and genres in Hong Kong L2 writing'. He also engaged in a conference held by Techno-Humanities Research Centre at CIHE and presented a paper with the title 'Exploring uncertainty and doubtfulness in students' assignment writing' on 5th-6th January 2022.
Mr Fong was awarded in the Good Mentor Commendation Scheme 2011-12, which is hosted by the Hong Kong Blind Union every school academic year. This award aims to encourage public awareness about integrated education and recognize schoolteachers who contribute their continuous and enthusiastic supports for visually impaired students. He also believes that love, sharing, and positive attitude of life is of paramount importance in schooling experience and whole-person education.
