The Saint Francis University (SFU) will launch a new Postgraduate Diploma in Private Banking and Family Office (Part-time) (PgD-PBFO) programme in the 2025-26 academic year. Three scholars from the Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management: Prof Susana YUEN, the Dean; Mr Dixon WONG, Associate Professor of Practice cum Programme Leader PgD-PBFO, and Prof YI Cheong Heon, were interviewed by HK01 recently to introduce the contents and features of the new programme.
Mr WONG said that the number of newly established family offices in Hong Kong has been growing steadily, and the Government's commitment to promoting the development of the family office industry is well demonstrated by the introduction of measures such as tax concessions for single family offices, the New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme, talent training programmes and a network of service providers in 2023. He pointed out that as there is a shortage of talents in the industry, professionals from related background, such as accounting, legal, banking or insurance industries may consider taking relevant courses and switching to other professions to capitalise on the related development opportunities.
Prof YUEN emphasised that the programme features applied learning, guiding students to solve practical problems, make sound decisions and manage business risks effectively. She also pointed out that more than half of the teaching staff, consultants and examiners come from the industry and are highly recognised. Also, the programme works with authoritative organisations such as the Family Office Association Hong Kong, which regularly reviews the course content, and has been cooperating with industry partners in exchanging information on manpower needs.
Prof YI added that upon completion of the programme, students can directly apply the Master of Corporate Governance (Part-time) programme with credit exemptions, enable the completion within one year and apply for exemptions from the HKCGI Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) in all subjects, which means obtaining three academic and professional qualifications in two years at the earliest.
